Navy Marine Coast Guard Residence Foundation
Installs Legacy Walk
The Navy Marine Coast Guard Residence Foundation in McLean, VA
has recently installed its "Legacy Walk" of engraved bricks.
The new walkway is located at the entrance of Vinson Hall. The original
mission of the foundation, which was established in 1961, was to
provide affordable housing for sea services officers' widows who
were not left sufficient funds when their husbands passed away.
Since then, the Foundation's goals have changed to include the
retired commissioned officers of all the uniformed services, their
spouses and immediate family members, as well as others from the
community. Over the years, Vinson Hall has become a well-respected
retirement community and has added a premier skilled nursing facility,
Arleigh Burke Pavilion. In addition, the Foundation's Board of Trustees
and Vinson Hall's Board of Directors have recently voted to plan
for a third building. This residence will focus on providing service
for memory impaired residents.
Each brick purchased has helped to support the mission of the Foundation
and has provided a way for individuals to honor loved ones, preserve
the past, and help pave the way to the future by encouraging storytelling
and passing of historical information from one generation to the
other. |
