The year 2002 marked the 25th anniversary of Huguley Memorial Medical Center in Fort Worth.
In honor of this anniversary, employees and friends of Huguley donated
money to build a walking trail around the Huguley campus.
Employees who gave one year commitments of one hour of pay per pay
period or more were recognized with an engraved brick displaying their name,
favorite scripture or quote, or names of loved ones. The bricks were popular with donors as they could have their thoughts
written in stone.
Bricks were also offered to the community for a donation of $100
or more. Over $60,000 was raised
for the trail, and it is continually growing as more and more people buy
bricks for friends and loved ones.
The trail is expanding to provide benched areas for rest and reflection.
Each benched area reflects a theme - FAITH, HOPE, PEACE, JOY, and LOVE. Each bench has one of these words cut into the back. The theme is reinforced with a Biblical scripture engraved in pavers
at the base of the bench. These
areas have been sold as sponsorships to local businesses and physicians. The engraved scripture at the base of the bench and the pavers on
the trail recognizing our donors have added to the beauty and uniqueness
of our trail. There is someone walking the trail seven days a week, reading
the words our donors have provided.
The engraved bricks used during the building of the trail were used as a
form of donor recognition. However, now that the walking trail is
finished, we are marketing engraved bricks to the community as gifts or
memorials. We get the word about the bricks out through newsletters,
e-mail, and word of mouth of those who use the walking trail. |
